Press Release

It’s our pre-Electric Picnic Party and we’re throwing the doors wide open this time with 5 acts. We’re delighted to have Electric Picniccers MKAI and Anti-One on the bill, sandwiched in between the excellent Hawklion, newcomers KEVYN and the dynamic acoustic performer Barry Jay Hughes!!

Doors will open at 7.30pm and admission is a mere €5 for what will be a fantastic night of music and fun!

MKAI
We saw these guys recently at The Grand Social and were kind of blown away by their performance! These brothers are really together; great vocals, and alternating lull/storm energy, definitely ones to watch. Cork lads too…
Fresh from a performance at the Indiependence festival, MKAI are a band of four brothers, who made their debut appearance with an explosive performance at Electric Picnic in 2014. Their debut EP ‘Waiting’ saw them teaming up with producer Rob Kirwan (Hozier, BellX1, U2, Depeche Mode) and was released with a sold out show in the Crane Lane Theatre, Cork.

Hot Press Magazine’s Hot For 2015: “(MKAI ) …have been making waves over the past year or so, most significantly in November when their Waiting EP occupied the No.3 spot on the iTunes Chart. It sat comfortably between One Direction and Taylor Swift, who they momentarily bumped down tofourth. All adept players from an early age, MKAI incorporate wandering guitar figures, piano and electronics into songs replete with a strong sense of melody and urgency.”
Irish Times ‘Next Big Thing In Music 2015’ listed by Colm O’Sullivan (Today FM)

Hawklion
Formed from the ashes of Dublin indie guitar crunchers The Looks, Hawklion set out to combine the grooves of Metronomy and delicate musical shifts of Foals fussed with the pop beauty of Duran Duran.
The band hid out in their makeshift studio, crafting the Hawklion aesthetic that was first revealed in 2013 when the band released their debut EP Gold & Silver.
The EP was well received with UK airplay on both BBC Radio 1 and XFM.
Having toured their debut almost immediately after it’s recording, Hawklion wrote and recorded the Pressure EP during a 6 month break from live performances the band.

Boasting monstrous hooks and more subtle, soulful songs, the EP is a real step forward from last years debut. And while it builds on what went before, Hawklion have maintained the pop sensibilities that saw them receive such great reviews.

“A near-epic fusion of old and new that happily echoes Friendly Fires, Fenech Soler and Two Door Cinema club” (Hotpress Magazine)

“really impressive EP…perfectly pitched, rabble-rousing angular poise” (Jim Carroll, The Irish Times)

“pop sensibilities of Duran Duran..custom made for major labels…nothing short of superb” (wearenoise)

KEVYN
Dublin based Indie Folk/Rock band KEVYN, combine their clever, emotive song-writing, raw and gritty vocals with booming performances that can both grab an audience by the heartstrings or catapult them into a high energy experience. Comprised of Karla Chubb, Sergio Munoz Canete, Jack Callan and Sean Walsh, the four friends combine an unparalleled passion for music and performing that has won them 2nd place in The Workman’s Battle of the Bands and sent them straight to the War at the Button Semi-Finals.

In the short space of time the group have been performing together they have played top Dublin venues such as Button Factory, Workmans and Foleys and had their song Hollow Hopes featured on @[NjQyMTgzOTU5MjA4MTA3Omh0dHBcYS8vSG90UHJlc3MuY29tLzo6:HotPress.com.] They are skilled musicians who’s high energy and fun loving attitude has garnered them much praise as charismatic, charming and natural performers.

Barry Jay Hughes
The spectacularly talented and energetic acoustic performer Barry Jay Hughes is rightly acclaimed by many of Ireland’s finest musicians as the consummate performer; we’re delighted to have Barry lift us up to the ceiling in his first Gigonometry Presents… performance. Fresh from support slots with Jack L and Paddy Casey, Barry is set to become a star of the live music scene.

“I love Falling Moon… it’s the perfect late night track that should be heard in broad daylight too!”
– Fiachna Ó Braonáin (RTÉ Radio1, and Hothouse Flower!)

Anti-One
A first full live-band outing for this Electric Picnic bound act, Anti-One is a Dublin musician with a jack of all trades attitude. Writing and recording every instrument, his music borders on rap, rock and anything else you can imagine. Equal parts Beck and Kanye West, Anti-One now has a live backing band, bringing so much energy that roofs have been known to catch fire!!

We’re thrilled to have Anti-One back having had the pleasure back in the old Gypsy Rose days; the bigger stage is well deserved by this innovative artist with his partners in crime.
