Dollitle are thrilled to announce a headline show from Toby Kaar on Friday April 8th to mark the release of his much anticipated EP “Gumbrielle” released on March 18th through Music is for Losers.
The full line-up for Toby Kaar’s “Gumbrielle EP” features “something for everyone (!)” including cult Dublin old-school light-entertainer Rod the Rocker, a solo set from jazz drummer Shane O’Donovan, and crate-digger extraordinaire DJ Jeremy Murphy.
Rod the Rocker plays pop, rock and country classics. This old-school Dublin song man has been raising the roof in city centre pubs with his brilliant and bizarre one-man shows, crooning out classics such as Lionel Richie’s “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” by the Stylistics.
Shane O’Donovan is a renowned Dublin based drummer who studied with Conor Guilfoyle and completed a diploma in jazz performance at Newpark. He is Louis Stewart’s regular drummer, and has backed top names like Guy Barker and Greg Osby. He is involved in numerous projects such as OKO, Multiverse, Rhythm Method, Kavorka and the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra.
DJ Jeremy Murphy is a purveyor of exotic dancefloor sets full of Latin/Brazilian/Caribbean/Afro jamms. The Cork-born DJ is commonly described as “the funkiest man in Ireland” and can often be found DJing at ChoiceCuts events or clubs such as Sim Simma.
Toby Kaar will be performing music from his just released debut “Gumbrielle EP” out now now on music/is/for/losers as well as brand new material.
music/is/for/losers return with a fearsome four-tracker from Cork residing producerToby Kaar, ‘Gumbrielle’. Despite having no set discography before his forthcoming offering on music/is/for/lovers, Toby musters up anticipation for his debut by building on his existing reputation as an exhilarating live performer. Produced on nine year old computer that had definitely seen better days, Kaar dives deep into a flurry of eclectic samples, that include jazz blogs to Asian supermarkets. From the exotic reaches of Snapdragon through to the breathy peaks of One For Bogie – the result is tensely arranged euphoric and bastardised beat music, taken out of the chin-stroker territory to be revitalised for a future-proofed dancefloor. – DUMMY MAG
