POLYTHENE JAM (Performing ‘Abbey Road’)

POLYTHENE JAM are a band who are inspired by George Harrison’s love for the ukulele. They have performed at the Grand Northern Ukulele Festival in the UK and All Together Now in Ireland, and they are guaranteed to a raise smile. At this year’s Dublin Beatles Festival they are going to play the ‘Abbey Road’ album on ukulele (with a little help from some other instruments), and we cannot wait to see it. This one is going to be special.

LENNON & SHOTTON

LENNON & SHOTTON is a short play about John Lennon and his best friend Pete Shotton. It follows the two teenage boys through their wild years at Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool and is completely based on fact. It will be performed by Padraic McGinley, and is written and directed by Stephen Kennedy. (Stephen’s plays about The Beatles have been broadcast on BBC RADIO 2, RTE RADIO 1, and BBC Radio Merseyside; and they have been staged at various venues in Dublin, Belfast, Liverpool, Dundee and Berlin.)

DUNCAN MAITLAND

DUNCAN MAITLAND is a ridiculously talented man. In the late 1990s he was a key member of the band Picture House, and wrote many of their songs, including their biggest hit ‘Sunburst’. Duncan has also worked with Irish music greats such as Thomas Walsh and Fran King, and he even played keyboards on the XTC song ‘Say It’. (Yes – XTC! The XTC!) And Duncan’s solo album Lullabies For The 21st Century is a real gem. Go and buy it now. Not surprisingly, Duncan is also an obsessive fan of The Beatles. It’s a genuine honour to have him playing at this year’s festival on November 5th.

PADRAIG BENNETT

PADRAIG BENNETT is a young singer-songwriter from Kildare who is currently studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He plays in a variety of styles and has a strong interest in choral music. Pádraig is a big fan of The Beatles and was a huge hit last autumn when he supported Pete Best at Lost Lane Theatre in Dublin.
