The festival made the annual call for applications in February, earlier than previous years, in order to give the 50 showcasing artists and attending international delegates a longer lead-in time to prepare. Nearly 600 acts applied via First Music Contact’s artist and industry platform Breaking Tunes. The acts were then chosen independently by an external panel of international and Irish industry professionals.

“Every year the quality of new acts that submit for IMW astounds us. We are incredibly excited to work with these 50 artists to help kickstart their international journey and to bring them to the attention of so many key global music industry professionals. We are witnessing a golden age in Irish music and it is so exciting to be a part of that.” – IMW Team

Sharon Barry, Director, Culture Ireland comments: “The 50 artists that will feature in this year’s Ireland Music Week have a vital and valuable opportunity to engage with the international music industry. Through its funding of IMW and First Music Contact’s Music from Ireland programme, Culture Ireland seeks to create opportunities for Irish musicians. We look forward to a celebration of new musical talent in October.”

The festival returns with the international-facing showcases and conference in October 2023. The conference elements will take place across the four days, with the music showcases taking place over two nights – Thursday 5th and Friday 6th from 8pm. The showcases will take place across six stages in the Grand Social, The Workman’s Club, (plus venue TBC). Lost Lane will once again be the festival hub and location for the conference during the day.

Ireland Music Week places a strong focus on export-ready artists with an increased success rate year on year. Bookers, labels, publishers, managers, agents, and many more international professionals have confirmed to attend, which can be an essential step in any Irish artists’ development. Many of the IMW acts each year go on to showcase at international festivals such as ESNS, SXSW, The Great Escape, Primavera Pro, c/o Pop and more. Ireland Music Week festival is supported by Culture Ireland.

Ireland Music Week continues its partnership with Keychange this year and will welcome three international artists to perform at the festival – KAMARA (Norway), TOLVY (France) and LIZA (Canada). Three international innovators will also take part in the conference. As always, the festival strives to achieve at least a 50% representation of women and underrepresented gender minorities in its line-up.
