Well, we’re lining up yet another sweet sweet Bank Holiday Sunday for you, because it’s the LAST BANKER OF 2015, so let’s make it count.
Kicking off proceedings are Be Curious, Kid. This band are the brain child of Dan Cady and Tom Coll. They describe their mathy, post-rock style as the ‘sweet sound of a cacophony of wrenches falling on to a tin floor.’ They’ve toured extensively around Ireland and we’re delighted to have them at our gaff. Plus we like wrenches and cacophonies, so we’re extra-excited.
Next up, My Mind Races. This gang are a 4 piece alternative act hailing from our own Dublin town. This is their first gig in nearly 2 years, so roll up to hear some brand new songs! They’ve been squirreled away, honing their live sound, which has drawn comparisons in the past to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Interpol and Deerhunter.
Finally, it’s a toss of a coin that will decide who will go on last. Either way, YOU are the winner as The Fontaines and I Heart The Monster Hero are both awesome forces to be reckoned with.
I Heart The Monster Hero have been breaking hearts and Casio keyboards in Dublin since 2011, garnering support for their ‘fuzzed-up swirl of pop-laminated psych punk.’ They are a psychedelic synth pop-rock delight with buckets of steam. Yes steam!I HTMH are practitioners in aural alchemy, creating magic from crystals, rams blood, holy candle wax and Casio circuit- boards. They guarantee that they will psych your face off. ‘Bright pop, course guitar and layered vocals – we like!’ The Irish Times. ‘I heart I heart the monster hero’ Conor J.O’Brien (Villagers)
The Fontaines, a five-piece, Dublin based band influenced by 80’s British alternative and rock n’ roll. John Robb from Louder Than War said Fontaines ’‘have created a rock n roll so pure and thrilling that it sounds like a breath of fresh air.’ Words like pure, thrilling get us going. Come see these guys.
As always, The Workman’s Club Karaoke Club takes over the venue after our host of bewdiful acts finish. Upstairs in the Main Bar we’ve got the wondrous Colin Devine and Edward Porter playing a 5 hour marathon back to back set of the very best (and worst!) in 80s,90s and 00s Guilty Pleasures. In No 9 Bar, Trev (Somewhere/Workman’s Sats) and Del Kerton (This Other Kingdom) will be keeping things all vinyl and all alternative!
