Shane Latimer – Guitar
Darragh O’Kelly – Keyboards
Jack Mc Mahon – Turntables
Shane O’ Donovan – Drums
Delicately sculpted electro-acoustic shapes, doom, funk science and expansive improv from guitarist Shane Latimer, percussionist Shane O’Donovan, keyboardist Darragh O’Kelly and turntablist DJackulate.
OKO was borne out of a number of collaborations at Bottlenote Festivals and concert series in 2010 and 2011. The band features guitarist Shane Latimer , keyboardist Darragh O’Kelly (Republic of Loose, Niwel Tsumbu), percussionist Shane O’Donovan (Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Isotope) and turntablist DJackulate (North Strand Kontra Band).
The group improvise between skeletal compositions, drawing on a wealth of influences such as krautrock, vintage TV shows, free jazz, noise, dub, drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep, musak, metal and more. Their music shifts from lush synth-drenched sculptures to tight hooks and loose grooves, robust scratching and liberated improvising.
Since their formation, OKO have performed in Dublin’s underground music scene and have road tested their music at various indie Dublin venues including Whelans, Grand Social, Workman’s Club & The Twisted Pepper. These appearances drew such acclaim that OKO were hired for festival slots at Kilkenny Arts Festival, Bray Jazz Festival, Lunasa Festival and Galway Jazz Festival. Their debut album is due out on Diatribe in 2012
“OKO’s music points towards a future where no one cares what it’s called.”
